Day 3: Route 89 (Idaho to the Grand Canyon) Temple Tour

Today we drove from Salt Lake City hotel, Little America, to our hotel in Sandy Utah.  We then bike to the Sandy Civic Center TRAX (commuter train) station and returned to Salt Lake City so both Luetta and I could bike together today.  It was quite an adventure.

Here we are going up the hill to the TRAX tracks to take the bike path beside it to the station.  It seems in Utah you often need to go up.  The TRAX ride was interesting you have to take you bike up three stairs on the car designated for bicycles and hold it for the whole ride.  I'm sure we don't know the best way to use this system but we sure clogged up that cars entrance.

After arriving at Salt Lake area we got off early as the train was getting very full.  We rode through downtown Salt Lake and took our photos in front of the Salt Lake Temple.

We then walked our bikes (no riding bikes on church property) back to the road and started our biking.

Here is was one portion of our downtown ride looked like.

We officially started our trip at the hotel we had stayed at last night.

After meandering a little we came to the Jordan River bike way

Here is a photo of one part of the river.  As all slow moving rivers it is quite silty.

Joseph is the moon getting bigger or smaller?

Another portion of the river.

We actually crossed under Interstate Highway 15 twice on our trip.  Here is one.

We also crossed the TRAX train tracks several time here is a view of one going by.

The are typical signs at each trailhead where another path joins the Jordan River trail.

It is River Festival in September, but we didn't seen any events.

Most of the train is very nice paved paths, but here is one with wood.

We saw California Quail on our ride.

Here is Luetta going through one of the many tunnels on the pathway.

At one point on the trail we saw this bicycle pump bolted to the cement with all the tools you would need to fix a bike on cables.  Very interesting, but what if you have bike problems elsewhere?

Finally we got to the Jordan River Temple which is under construction.

My original plans included bike to the Oquirrh Temple but we had to adjust our trip.  So Luetta took this picture of me pointing to it.  It is that pointy thing just below my finger, quite far away on the mountains on the other side of the valley.

Here is my ride for tomorrow, wish me luck.

Ride from Sandy Utah to Provo, actually Springvile
